Internal Medicine

Medical weight loss

A check for causes first, then a plan. Medicine, including GLP-1, when it is right for you. Help when your insurance says no.

Please bring a list of your medicines, supplements and herbs, and any recent blood tests. It also helps to think about what you have tried before: diets, programs or medicines.

First, find out why

Thyroid problems, sleep apnea, insulin resistance and some common medicines can all make weight hard to lose. The first visit looks for these, with an exam and blood tests.

What the plan can include

  • Medicine, including GLP-1 medicines (the weekly weight-loss shots), when they are right for you
  • A check of the medicines you take now — some cause weight gain
  • Care for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar at the same time
  • A plan for when you stop the medicine, made before you start — weight often comes back when GLP-1 medicine stops

How we check progress

We look at more than the scale: blood pressure, blood sugar, your energy, and how easily you move. How much weight comes off is different for every person.

If insurance says no

Insurance often turns down weight-loss medicine. The clinic pharmacist asks your insurance for approval, and writes the appeal if they say no.

Common questions

Do you prescribe GLP-1 medicines?

Yes, after a check-up and when they are right for you. We also talk about what happens when you stop.

My insurance said no. Can you help?

Yes. The clinic pharmacist writes the appeal. Many appeals work, but we cannot promise the result.

Do I have to buy a program?

No. These are regular medical visits, priced like any other. No packages, and nothing is sold in the office.
